Edinburgh 3 Day Itinerary
Day 1 - The best way to see Edinburgh is by a guided walking tour of this beautiful city, named the ‘Athens of the North’ for its stunning architecture and beauty. The tour begins in the Old Town, on the famous Royal Mile. From the Holyrood Palace at the bottom to Edinburgh Castle at the top, the Royal mile is home to many of Edinburgh's most famous attractions (Dynamic Earth, Scottish Parliament, St.Giles Cathedral and many more). The tour ends at Edinburgh Castle, high up on a rock overlooking this beautiful city.
Day 2 - A morning excursion to the Royal Yacht Britannia, the luxurious floating home of the Royal Family. From Sir Winston Churchill to Boris Yeltsin, Rajiv Gandhi to Nelson Mandela, some of the world’s most influential people have been welcomed aboard Britannia; now you can stand where they stood and see what they saw. In the afternoon we return to Edinburgh, with time to visit the National Museum of Scotland or the National Gallery.
Day 3 - A day to explore the New Town, home to shops, bars and restaurants along the famous Princes Street.
Edinburgh 4 day Itinerary
As above but with one extra day to explore Scotland. Edinburgh is the ideal base to tour Scotland, with many fantastic days trips within reach. Options include:
Loch Ness & the Highlands - Leave Edinburgh at 08.00hrs and explore some of the most beautiful and dramatic areas of Scotland. After a morning coffee stop at Kilmahog, we travel through Rob Roy Country and arrive at the Weeping Glen of Glencoe, the infamous site of the 1692 Massacre, for a photo stop. after another short drive we arrive at Fort William for lunch. Fort William is in the shadow of Ben Nevis - Britains's highest mountain. We then continue to Spean Bridge where we have another opportunity to view and photograph Ben Nevis. From here we follow the Caledonian Canal to Loch Ness and Urquhart Castle, where you will have ample time to view the 12th Century castle, visit the new Visitor's Centre which offers an audio visual display along with other interesting objects and take a short cruise on the Loch if you wish. After your cruise the coach will pick you up and we start our homeward journey by way of the Grampian Mountains, passing Blair Castle in the distance famous for it's private army. At Pitlochry we have a short break before arriving in Edinburgh at approximately 20.15 hrs.
Glasgow, Loch Lomond & Stirling (Braveheart Country) - The tour leaves Edinburgh at 09.00 hours and takes us to Glasgow for a short Panoramic Tour of the City. This is Scotland's largest city. You will see landmarks such as the Cathedral, George Square and the University. After crossing the River Clyde and a short drive we arrive at Loch Lomond where you will have the opportunity to take photographs and view the Loch and beautiful scenery. At the village of Balloch on the banks of Loch Lomond you will be able to take an optional Boat Cruise or wander round the village before heading for the wonderful picturesque village of Aberfoyle and your lunch stop. Aberfoyle is the gateway to The Trossachs. After lunch we continue on our journey through this beautiful area with stops for photographs of the Lochs and Glens. This is the home of Rob Roy MacGregor, one of Scotland's most famous characters, you will also hear stories about William Wallace, immortalised in the film "Braveheart". Our last stop of the day is at Stirling Castle. Here you will have the opportunity to visit or just admire the scenery from the esplanade. Stirling Castle is famous for it's connections with William Wallace, Robert the Bruce, Mary Queen of Scots and Bonnie Prince Charlie. On our way home our coach passes LINLITHGOW PALACE the Birth place of Mary Queen of Scots. When we arrive in Edinburgh the tour ends.
Rosslyn Chapel (Da Vinci Code) and Whisky Distillery Tour - This tour departs at 10.15 hours and we make our way to ROSSLYN CHAPEL. The Chapel is unique and known world wide for its beauty, its carvings and of course the aura of mystery and magic which is present in this magnificent building. Also with it's MASONIC and KNIGHTS TEMPLAR Association and the legend of the HOLY GRAIL. This is further enhanced by the recent best selling book and movie “THE DA VINCI CODE”. After your visit to this historic place we make a stop for lunch. From here we travel east to the charming East Lothian village of PENCAITLAND, where GLENKINCHIE DISTILLERY is situated. This is the only remaining MALT WHISKY DISTILLERY in the Edinburgh area. It is surrounded by the rolling hills and fresh water burns of the LAMMERMUIR HILLS whose soft waters contribute to the classic taste of this fine malt whisky. On our guided tour we will learn about traditional distilling methods and have a chance to sample Scotland’s national drink. After we leave the distillery we will make our way back to Edinburgh for 16.00 hours.
